Live video on fan platforms: a newbie guide

This guide is about OnlyFans Go Live—the fees, eligibility, browser steps and connection indicators below are OnlyFans-specific, not universal fan-platform rules. Live video on a subscription page is still different from a public cam grid: your audience is mostly people who already follow or subscribe. Tips and paid entry use OnlyFans’ usual 20% platform fee on fan payments (Terms).

You will get a verified setup path, a preflight check, a first-session plan (with or without tip goals), and a short contrast with dedicated cam sites. Why go live on OnlyFans

Extra income (optional). Tips during the stream and (on eligible free profiles) a paid entry price can turn one block of time into cash beside subscriptions and unlocks. OnlyFans keeps the usual 20% of those fan payments (Terms). A first stream can also be a Q&A or demonstration with no tip goal.

Stay on the page you sell. Viewers already on your OnlyFans page can tip, renew or unlock after the stream without leaving that product. Dedicated cam sites may restrict promoting other live-streaming products from their rooms—see the comparison below.

Engagement. Chat lets you answer questions, learn requests and give regulars a reason to show up again. Tips are optional; give a clear reason when you ask.

Live is optional. Skip it if going live crowds out the photo and video posts that renew subscriptions—or try a one-off session before you decide whether a regular slot is worth it.

OnlyFans Go Live (verified)

Eligibility

OnlyFans’ Creator Center states that Go Live is not automatic. It appears after you have a history of sharing content and engaging your community (Creator Center). The Go Live blog also points creators to Community Guidelines on enabling livestreaming (Go Live). Timing varies by account—wait until the button appears rather than assuming a fixed day-count from third-party posts.

Browser setup (official steps)

From the How to Go Live post (May 10, 2024):

Use a recommended browser (Safari on iPhone/iPad; Chrome on Android; see OnlyFans’ desktop browser list).
Select the Go Live icon.
Under Available to, choose which subscribers can join and whom to exclude.
Write a short description.
On free profiles, you may set a Live Video Price from $5 upward (price-tag control).
Optionally add a tip goal and reward; choose whether the goal is visible.
Choose whether viewers see collected tips.
Press Start Live Video. Watch the connection indicator: red = weak, yellow = average, green = strong enough for high-quality streaming.

Co-streaming and OBS

Official docs cover co-streaming with another creator (mutual subscriptions and Streaming settings) and OBS: copy the stream key from Settings → Streaming, choose OnlyFans.com as the OBS service, start streaming in OBS, then use Link stream to chat on OnlyFans so chat (and any tip goal) stays connected (Go Live guide; OBS). Treat the stream key like a password—do not post it publicly or share it in screenshots.

Scheduling

You can add a future livestream to your Queue so fans get a reminder; start on time from the Queue when the slot arrives (Go Live guide). A queued weekly slot is useful once you want a repeatable time—it is not required for a first stream.

First-session plan

Preflight (before you go live)

Framing — head and torso (or your planned shot) in frame; nothing unintended at the edges.
Microphone audio — speak a test line and confirm level (browser preview, OBS meter or a quick private check).
Chat readability — you can see and scroll chat while on camera (second window/device if needed).
Audience and price — Available to list, any free-profile Live Video Price, and tip-goal visibility match what you intend.
Background identifiers — remove or cover mail, name badges, street signs or other details you do not want on camera.
OBS (if using it) — stream key stays private; sources and “Link stream to chat” ready.

During the session

Pick a length you can finish (for example 30–45 minutes). Write three beats: welcome / main activity / wind-down. The main activity can be a Q&A, a demonstration, a soft tease or something else you are comfortable delivering. Pace the reveal—if you open with everything in the first minutes, plan what fills the rest of the slot.
Optional tip goal — if you want one, set a single goal with a reward you will actually deliver if it hits, and keep a Plan B if someone tips the whole goal early. Skip the goal if this session is conversation or demo only.
Tell the room the plan once at the start and once mid-stream.
Address people by name when you can; thank tips without freezing the show.
End cleanly—say you are closing, point to the next stream or a pinned post if you have one, then stop the broadcast.

After the session

Review what happened: technical problems (connection, audio, framing), questions fans asked, who participated in chat, earnings where relevant, and total preparation plus live time. Conversation without tips is not wasted time if it taught you what the room wants next.

Optional later: a weekly Queue slot fans can learn, a second slot at a different time if you can staff it, tip-linked toys if OnlyFans (or another tool you use) supports them, or a short subscription offer mentioned during the stream—only if you can deliver it.

Gear checklist (keep it light)

OnlyFans’ own guide starts with a phone or webcam plus a strong connection, preferably Wi‑Fi or ethernet rather than weak mobile data (Go Live).

Useful additions once you stream more than once:

Light you control (window or a small ring / panel)—see the ring light guide.
A way to read chat while on camera (laptop browser, second device, or OBS + chat window). Phone-only setups make chat harder to follow.
If you stream from bed or away from the desk, a wireless keyboard/mouse (or a second device for chat) helps you reply without breaking the frame.
Optional external mic if you sit far from the laptop.
Tidy background; mute notifications.

Other fan platforms

This article’s detailed workflow is OnlyFans. Some other subscription sites ship their own live tools. LoyalFans, for example, documents a Go Live flow from the timeline and dashboard, audience settings, a start-broadcast control before you appear in live listings, live chat / whisper, and optional recording (LoyalFans Go Live help). You can run OnlyFans live and a cam site as two channels, or stick to one. The cam shortlist helps if you want a public grid.

Verdict

Go live on OnlyFans when the button is enabled and you can finish a session with a clear plan—Q&A, demonstration or tip goals are all valid. Use the published Go Live / OBS / Queue steps, run the preflight checks, and keep your connection in good shape. A repeatable weekly slot is useful once you want one; it is not a requirement to try. Treat dedicated cam sites as an optional separate discovery channel—not something every creator must add.
